From farm to town life on “The Green Corridor”
We are excited that TG Homes have made a start on site, let’s hope for clear weather as they commence works. Our clients are a farming couple that have decided to move from their rural farm into a bespoke home located near parkland on the Green Corridor of West Wyalong. The Green Corridor joins the townships of Wyalong and West Wyalong, with walking and bike tracks that journey past interesting outdoor art, several parks with barbecue facilities and play equipment and Holland Park Pool. In addition to the benefits of being close to amenities and the local community, they wanted to create a home to be enjoyed by several generations, with the flexibility of being adaptable for future reconfiguration.
To formulate a scheme that was practical and flexible, a design was prepared that arranged the home into zones stemming from a central entry and hallway. A double door design at the front of the home creates an airlock preventing substantial amounts of heat or cool air from escaping when entering and exiting the house. This building strategy prevents energy-consuming drafts and makes the building more energy-efficient.
By incorporating a familiar farming element to their new town home, the site will have dual access and parking options through a practical house garage teamed with a farm style colorbond shed to the rear lane. Continuing the tranquil atmosphere of being surrounded by nature, the landscape design ties in park views across the street to bring a more expansive feel to the garden. A calming, neutral colour palette of mediterranean inspired brickwork and light-coloured metals further creates a picturesque backdrop for the owners to relax in.
The home will be recessed further back into the site to provide a seamless flow out onto the patio area where alfresco moments can be enjoyed. Mindful placement of windows and doors ensures that a generous amount of sunlight penetrates the home to create cosy internal spaces that are well lit and a pleasure to occupy. To maintain privacy and an elegant yet relaxed feel, there will be a fast-growing evergreen hedge along the front façade, waist high shrubs, ground covering plants and deciduous screening trees. A formal pathway lined with roses and a Japanese inspired arbour leads you from the front gate to the homes entrance, reminiscent of an established country garden.
