A Timeless Homestead: Blending Tradition with Contemporary Living
We present a beautifully reimagined homestead near Wagga Wagga, captured by the talented Devlin Azzie at Threefold Studio. In close collaboration with the client, Somewhere Landscape and Balding Constructions, seamlessly weaves together the charm of rural heritage with the refined functionality of modern living.
The project thoughtfully expands the original footprint, enhancing functionality while preserving the home’s architectural character. The design respects the past, while making space for the future—a balance of tradition and contemporary living.
The contemporary barn-style addition reflects the architecture of the existing 1930s homestead, with a bold roofline and high ceilings. To ensure a seamless connection, the exterior walls match the original home, and a new pergola unites both structures. Extending from the kitchen, the addition includes a butler’s pantry, open-plan living and dining, a foyer, master suite with ensuite, guest bedroom, bathroom, laundry, and double garage.
A refined interior palette reinforces the home’s timeless appeal. Polished concrete with coarse aggregate, wall panelling, solid timber floorboards, and marble tiles create a harmonious blend of textures. Soft off-whites and muted green-greys, used with restraint, establish a serene and inviting atmosphere.
A standout element is the landscape design, which connects the original country garden with the new extension. Featuring perennial plantings, a swimming pool, generous stretches of turf, and carefully built stone walls. These elements not only complement the built form but are poised to mature beautifully, enhancing the property’s aesthetic value over time.
This homestead transformation is a celebration of legacy—designed to be lived in and loved by the current family and generations to come.
