A Heritage Reimagined: The Restoration of the Carriage House Guest Quarters

Set within the rural landscape near Wagga Wagga, the restoration of the Carriage House Guest Quarters breathes new life into a significant nineteenth-century structure. Thoughtfully balancing heritage preservation with contemporary hospitality, the design retains the integrity of the original building while introducing a refined and functional guest accommodation experience.

The project comprises seven fully furnished guest rooms, each seamlessly connected by a central courtyard and loggia. A considered spatial arrangement enhances flow and openness, reflecting contemporary lifestyles through an emphasis on connectivity and shared spaces.

A deep respect for the site’s history guided the material and design approach. Original red bricks—crafted from clay sourced on the property—have been carefully preserved, offering a tangible link to the past and a reflection of the estate’s storied legacy dating back to 1903. The interiors, developed in collaboration with Our Place in London, draw inspiration from the English farmhouse vernacular, blending tradition with modern comfort.

Each guest space is elegantly curated, featuring a distinctive palette of blue, green, or yellow accent tones, subtly complemented by neutral finishes and nature-inspired textures. The layering of herringbone flooring, wall paneling, and shaker-style cabinetry, alongside antique furnishings and carefully selected ornaments, reinforces an atmosphere of timeless charm and understated luxury.

This restoration celebrates the architectural and cultural significance of the carriage house, ensuring its continued relevance as a place of retreat and hospitality while honoring its historical roots.
