Spotlight: Breathing new life into the Coolamon Hotel
We are proud to share one of our recent projects - the restoration of the Coolamon Hotel, completed in collaboration with Future Flip.
After an involved five-year restoration journey, the venue has reopened. Revitalised with three distinct bars, a stunning glasshouse dining space and a sunlit terrace, all while retaining its heritage soul.
Our architectural approach was rooted in this spirit of revival: we worked to reinforce the existing verandah, preserve original pressed-metal ceilings, and integrate new spaces like the glasshouse and cocktail bar with careful sensitivity to the building’s historic language.
This wasn’t just another renovation project, it was a heartfelt labour of love. The new owners, deeply connected to Coolamon, took on the challenge because of what the hotel meant to them and to the community. Our role as architects was to transform that emotional investment into a built environment that respects heritage, meets modern standards and invites future stories to unfold within its walls
Key features we’re most proud of:
Glasshouse dining area: A luminous, climate-responsive space that blurs indoor and outdoor boundaries, perfect for year-round use and special events
Terrace and dining experience: Strengthens connection to the town, offering beautiful views and elegant hospitality in a renewed, welcoming setting
Three reimagined bars: Including a new long-room cocktail bar, redefining how locals and guests socialise within the hotel’s historic footprint
Accommodation refined: Transformed from basic rooms with shared amenities into four ensuite bedrooms that offer comfort and style, without sacrificing character
